Who do you love enough to be willing to make sacrifices for? Is there anyone you’d be ready to die for? Most people would say they love their children, parents, or spouses enough to be willing to make sacrifices, perhaps even give their lives, for their wellbeing.
But how much would you be willing to sacrifice for an acquaintance? How about an enemy? Probably not so much. But this is exactly what Jesus did–He made the greatest sacrifice for us when we were least deserving. Look at what Paul tells us about Jesus’ incredible love:
“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6-8)
We weren’t family or even friends of God when Jesus died for us. According to the verse above, we were powerless, ungodly sinners. We were rebellious, selfish, sinful people who could not turn things around on our own. We were living as enemies of God.
Yet, Jesus did something unique and unfathomable. He not only declared His love for us, He demonstrated it in the most extreme way possible — He died for us!
There is nothing that God has gone to more extraordinary lengths to prove than His love for us.
Let’s live with confidence in that proven love. Let’s look at life through the filter of that love. Let’s let our hearts overflow with joy because, no matter what happens, we know that Jesus loves us.
Ask God to give you an overwhelming sense of His love today!
