What are you known for?

If we were to ask ten people in your life what you are most known for, what would they say? Would they talk about your occupation, family role, financial or social status, hobbies, personality trait, physical appearance, or something else altogether?

Peter and John were both fishermen from a small town in Galilee. They had no formal education to speak of but had worked hard and become small business owners. We also know from the Gospels that Peter tended to be outspoken and that John had a temper.

But, In Acts 4:13 we see that there was something about them that overshadowed all those characteristics… “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.”

Peter and John had listened to Jesus ' teachings, seen His miracles, and experienced His love. Their time Jesus had so radically transformed their lives that it was now the most noticeable thing about them. In particular, their uncommon courage was unmistakably a result of being with Jesus. His heavenly confidence had rubbed off on them.

What about us? Is our connection with Jesus unmistakable? When people interact with us can they sense that we have been with the Lord? Do our conversations, attitudes, and responses to life's challenges reflect the character of Christ? Have we spent enough time with Jesus that He has rubbed off on us?

The challenge is that we get so busy doing so many good things that we often neglect the most important thing– time with Jesus.

We need to create sacred space in our daily routines where we can reflect on Jesus’ teaching, receive His guidance, or simply rest in His presence. When we do, who Jesus is will start to shape how we respond to life’s challenges, and people will realize that we’ve been with Him.

Let’s carve out some time from our busy schedule to spend some time with Jesus today.
