Malachi 3:16, reveals a profound truth about the significance of our conversations and how they matter to God. It says, “Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name” (Malachi 3:16).
So here’s the million dollar question, “How many of our conversations are worth remembering?” In a world filled with negativity, grumbling and complaining do we succumb to the influence of the culture around us? Or are our hearts so filled with a reverence for God that our love for Him spills out into our conversations?
Jesus followed up on this idea in Malachi when He said, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). The words we speak not only impact those around us but also reveal the true state of our relationship with God.
Conversations worth remembering start with a heart that is full of worthy thoughts about God.
By cultivating hearts filled with reverence for God, we ensure that our words align with His truth and grace. If we surround ourselves with fellow believers who share the same commitment to honor God, together, we can create an environment where our words bring life and reflect the love of Jesus.
Take a few minutes today and write down five great things about God. How do you feel as you reflect on those characteristics of God? What would you say to Jesus if He were standing right beside you?
Let’s be intentional about filling our hearts with great thoughts of God today!
