Here’s Some Good News

If you've been following the news lately, it can be easy to be overwhelmed by the constant barrage of bad news—natural disasters, political unrest, conflicts, economic challenges, and social injustices. The media’s tendency to highlight the bad can have a negative impact on our own perspective, causing us to adopt a pessimistic outlook and even become spreaders of bad news ourselves. We all need a little good news to cut through the negative.

In the book of Nahum, which focuses primarily on negative judgment against Assyria, we get some unexpected good news. The prophet declares, "Behold, upon the mountains, the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace!" (Nahum 1:15).

650 years later, Jesus stepped onto the scene and declared Himself as the embodiment of that good news. Quoting from Isaiah 61:1-2, He proclaimed, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor..." Jesus' entire life was a world-altering declaration and expression of God’s good news.

Jesus came offering hope, healing, and restoration to a broken world. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus proclaimed the ultimate good news—that through Him, salvation and reconciliation with God are possible. He is the anchor of our hope, the source of our peace, and the perfect demonstration of God's love.

In a world saturated with bad news, let’s not lose sight of the good news that Jesus brings. As followers of Jesus, we have the privilege and responsibility to share this good news with others, offering them a hope that is only found in Jesus.

As you reflect on the past month, have you tended to be more of a repeater of bad news or a proclaimer of good news?
