“The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands.” – Daniel 2:44-44
In this passage, God gave King Nebuchadnezar a dream. In his dream, the king saw a huge, impressive looking, multi-layered statue. Each layer was made of different materials starting with gold and the top and working all the way down to clay at the feet. It represented all the powerful kingdoms that would rule over the earth. But then a bigger and more impressive rock, supernaturally cut from a mountain, came and crushed the statue to dust.
In this dream God was showing Nebuchadnezer how temporary and transitory all earthly power is and how it would all one day be replaced by an eternal kingdom that would never be conquered but would instead crush all other powers. This dream is actually a prophecy about Jesus.
Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Through His life, death and resurrection He shattered the power of sin, death and the grave. Satan is the ultimate ruler of this world and Jesus crushed his kingdom. Jesus’ reign is undisputed and His kingdom will last forever. We are now part of that unshakable and eternal kingdom. Sin and the devil no longer have dominion over us.
Let’s live like citizens of Jesus’ kingdom today!
