Ezekiel 1:26-28 – while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God… High above on the throne was a figure like that of a man. He looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire… he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him.”
The book of Ezekiel starts off with a profound and majestic vision of Jesus on His throne. It’s a remarkable vision of Jesus in all His glory so let’s take a moment and consider several aspects of it and then apply them to our lives today.
High Above - The first thing Ezekiel sees about Jesus is that He exalted above everything. There is nothing and no one greater than Him. How elevated are your thoughts of Jesus today? What are the top 3 great thoughts you have of Jesus?
On the throne - Jesus is the ultimate authority. He has all power and dominion and rules over everything. Is obedience to Him our natural inclination? Have you asked Him what He wants you to do yet today?
Full of fire - the Hebrew words are literally “fire infolding itself.” The picture we get of Jesus here is that He is a consuming fire, engulfing everything around Him. He is so holy, so pure, so glorious that His very being is like a consuming fire. Are we drawing close enough to Jesus for our lives to be consumed by Him? Would you describe your life as on fire with Jesus?
Brilliant light (like a rainbow) - Jesus is also clothed in light. He is the light of the world. It is a light so intense and vibrant that it’s like a kaleidoscope of brilliant color cascading from His presence. Are we walking in the beauty of Jesus’ light today?
Jesus is more glorious than anything we could ever envision! Ask Him to give you a greater understanding of how great He truly is today!
