How To Never Be Shaken

Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.” – Isaiah 28:16

In construction, a cornerstone was considered the most important part of the foundation. It was the first stone laid and became the reference point from which everything else would be built. It also provided shape, strength, stability to the entire structure. Because of this, it was also the most precious or costly stone because it had to be perfect – any flaws would just be amplified throughout the rest of the building.

In the same way, Jesus is the cornerstone of our faith. God promises that if we build our lives upon Him that we will never be shaken. So what does it mean to have Jesus as our cornerstone? Well, it starts with a personal decision to trust our faith in Him as our Savior. But it goes way beyond just trusting Jesus for forgiveness and eternal life.

Having Jesus as our cornerstone also means that  Jesus can’t just be an accessory. He has to be the primary reference point for everything. We need to ask ourselves if everything we are building is aligned with who Jesus – our goals, relationships, careers, family, marriages, etc.

When we do, we will discover that He gives shape, strength and stability to all those important areas of our lives. But, if we build our lives based on the values and norms of our culture, it is like building on a foundation of sand. The higher you build, the more unstable everything becomes.

Take a moment today and ask God to reveal any areas of your life that are not being built with Jesus as your cornerstone.
