Psalm 110:1 – The LORD said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”
To the Jews of Jesus’ day, when it came to kings, they considered king David to be the greatest of all time. In fact, they believed David was such a great king that not even the Messiah would be greater. But the problem with this perspective is that it hindered their ability to fully trust and give their wholehearted allegiance to the Messiah because there was always something greater.
So Jesus corrects their perspective by taking them back to Psalm 110 and showing them that David had a different view of who was the Greatest Of All Time. In this Psalm David, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, starts by saying “YHWH said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand…’” Here we see that David not only saw the Messiah as greater than himself, but also as divine and sitting at the right hand of God.
Jesus points this out to the Pharisees in Matthew 22:45 as He asks them, “If David calls Him ‘Lord’ how can He be his son?” So the question for us today is, “Since Jesus is the Lord of lords and the Greatest Of All Time, how can we let fear or worry or hurt or pride or anything else have greater control over lives than Jesus?”
Do we really believe that Jesus is the Greatest Of All Time and do we trust Him like He is?
