How to Pass the Test of Suffering

Satan replied… “You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.” – Job 1:10-11

Job was a good man. He was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. He was compassionate and generous towards others. He was also very blessed. He had ten children, three successful businesses, vast wealth, and a good reputation in the community. So Satan questioned the sincerity of Job’s love for God. He claimed that if God removed all the blessings, then Job would curse God to His face.

Even though Satan has evil motives, his questions do have some merit. So, instead of waiting for him to accuse and condemn us, let’s be the first to examine our own hearts. Let’s determine the answers before the real tests come in life. Let’s get prepared to pass the test of suffering! Take a moment and ask yourself the following questions…

  • If tragedy struck or hard times persisted, would I be tempted to blame or doubt God?
  • Do I love God before His blessings or only because of them?
  • Am I slow to acknowledge God’s goodness when things are going well but quick to doubt His love when things go poorly?
