Trusting God’s Providence

“Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” – Esther 4:12

The book of Esther is a unique book in the Bible as it is the only one that doesn’t mention God specifically. But even though we don’t see God’s name outright, we do see His hand of providence manifested throughout the lives of Ether and her uncle Mordecai. Nowhere is this principle better encapsulated than in Mordecai’s words to Esther in the verse above.

If you remember the story, the Jews were being threatened with annihilation and Esther was in a position as queen to do something to save her people. However, doing so might cost her everything, even her own life. As she expressed her fears to Mordecai, he encouraged her to remember God’s providence and trust that maybe her whole life was leading up to this. Maybe in God’s sovereign goodness, everything she thought she had to lose had actually been given to her by God to use in this moment.

Just like Esther was brought into a royal position, we too have been brought into the family of the King of kings through Jesus’ death on the cross for us. 1 Peter 2:9 tells us “you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.” And just like Esther, we can trust that God is working all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28).

Be encouraged today, whatever challenges you may be facing, God sovereign goodness is at work in your life. You can trust His providence.
