The Gracious Hand of God

Ezra 7:9-10 & 8:22 – The gracious hand of his God was on him. For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel… “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to Him.”

One of the most beautiful characteristics of Ezra’s life was the gracious hand of God upon his life. In fact it shows up six times in just chapters 7 and 8. It represents God’s providence working everything for good. It is the reason for Ezra’s success, for the king’s favor, for travel mercies and safe arrivals, and for people volunteering to join him in the mission of returning to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple.

But God’s gracious hand wasn’t just a coincidence. Ezra set his heart on seeking God. He devoted himself to studying God’s word and to sharing it with others so that they could know God’s grace as well. God’s gracious hand also wasn’t unique to Ezra’s life. It’s available to everyone who looks to Him. When we devote ourselves to seeking God in His Word like Ezra, we will find Him in all His goodness.

How about you? Would you like to see more of God’s gracious hand on your life? Are you making him the center of your life?
