What Foundation Are You Building On?

Ezra 3:11 – And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

A solid foundation is essential to build anything substantial. When the foundation to the temple was laid, all the people shouted in praise to God. They were rejoicing because there was finally something solid to build the temple on. Building the temple was so important because it provided access to God’s forgiveness, brought them into unhindered fellowship with Him and gave a unifying focus for the community.

In Ephesians 2:20-21 it says, “Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord” Just like the people in Ezra’s day we should also rejoice because Jesus provides a secure foundation for our faith. He gives us access to God’s grace, secures our forgiveness, and brings us into unhindered fellowship with the Father.

With Jesus as our foundation, we become living stones, placed carefully by the Master Builder to form His church. Just as each stone in a physical building is connected to the others and serves a purpose, so too we are designed to be in community with other believers, as we support each other and work together to build up the church.

May you continue to place your trust and hope in Jesus as the foundation for your life and eternity!
