A Distinctly Wonderful Life

And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” – Joshua 3:5

Often when we hear the word sanctification it has a connotation of becoming more religious or “holier-than-thou”. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth. The word “sanctify” in the Hebrew is qāḏaš and means “to set apart, to be distinct from the common or profane.” The reason Joshua tells the people to be sanctified is so that they would be prepared for God to do something wonderful in their lives. Sanctification isn’t about becoming more religious but about Jesus making your life distinctly wonderful! God wants to bring us into the fullness of His promises so that we can experience the reality of His uncommon goodness. Being common (like the rest of the world) is a hindrance to fully entering into the distinctly wonderful life God has promised. “He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” (2 Peter 1:4)

Has your life become common and mundane, just like everyone around you? Are you longing to experience God in a wonderful and powerful new way? Start asking Jesus to sanctify your life by the power of His Spirit every day!
