A Pleasing Aroma

One of the common themes of the offerings we’ve looked at this week is that they were all a “pleasing aroma to God.” It’s interesting to note that there was nothing inherently pleasing to God in the burning flesh or fine flour rising as smoke from the altar. What made them pleasing to Him was that they were offered in faith. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “Without faith it is impossible to please God. For those who come to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” You see, none of the offerings actually made atonement. They simply pointed to Jesus, who alone made full atonement. In Ephesians 5:2 it says that Jesus “loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” Jesus’ death on the cross was pleasing to the Father because it demonstrated His love in the most complete and perfect way possible. It continues to be pleasing to Him every time we put our faith in Jesus for forgiveness and cleansing of all our sin.

How thankful have you been to God lately for His loving kindness in your life? Why not take a moment and express to God your gratitude for all that He has done through His Son?
