“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” – Ecclesiastes 1:2
One of my favorite princess movies (yes I like princess movies) is Aladdin. Two of my favorite scenes are when Aladdin reaches out his hand to Jasmine and says, “Do you trust me?” The first time is right before he tells her to jump off a building and the second is when he invites her hop on his magic carpet for a ride. Both require leaps of faith.
In many ways, “Do you trust me?” is the message of Ecclesiastes. This book takes a hard and very realistic look at life. In it, God through Solomon, points out the meaningless, mysteriousness, and often miserable aspects of life. But then it’s as if Jesus turns towards us in the midst of the challenges, extends His hand and asks, “Do you trust Me?”
Trusting Jesus means acknowledging that meaning isn’t found in good health or personal happiness. It isn’t found in marriage or parenting. It’s not found in plentiful finances or a successful career. Trusting Jesus even when nothing makes sense means we’ve taken hold of the greatest meaning of all… our relationship with Him.
Do you trust Jesus even when life seems meaningless?
