“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 16:12
We live in a culture that encourages us to do things our own way, to follow our own version of the truth and live our own kind of life. The problem with this approach is that it leaves us blind, lost and guessing about the right direction for life. It doesn’t lead us to the life of God but down a path leading to death and separation from Him.
Fortunately, we don’t have to move blindly through life. Proverbs 6:23 tells us, “For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life.” Proverbs 10:17 affirms that, “He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, but he who refuses correction goes astray.” Finally, Proverbs 15:24 reassures us that, “The way of life winds upward for the wise, that he may turn away from hell below.”
The great news for us is that there is a clear way to live life and it’s found in following the teaching and example of Jesus. In John 14:6 Jesus declared, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is not simply one way among many; He is the only way. Jesus is not just a truth; He is the only truth. Jesus’ life is the only one that actually leads us to the Father.
Whose way are you following? Whose truth are you believing? Whose life are you living?
