“If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.” – Psalm 130:3-4
Today’s passage out of Psalm 130 has one of the scariest “if’s” in the Bible… “if you, Lord, kept a record of sin...” Can you imagine how horrible it would be if God kept a record of every sinful thought, word or deed you ever committed? If that were a reality, then we’d all be doomed.
The good news is that the scary “if” in Psalm 130 is followed by a comforting “but.” Instead of keeping a record of our sins, God actually cleared the record of our sins by sending His Son to die on the cross for our sin.
Jesus is the only reason the Father does not record our sins, because if we are in Christ, our debt is paid in full by His blood. Jesus is the reason we have been granted forgiveness. Jesus is the only reason we can “stand” in God’s presence as holy and righteous. Jesus is the only reason we serve God in reverence.
In 1 John 1:9 it says, “If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Don’t let unconfessed and unrepented sin keep you from standing confidently before God.
Take a minute this morning and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas in your life that you might need to take to the Lord. Confess those confidently to Him knowing that there is forgiveness with Him!
