Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. – Psalm 85:9-11
Those that know me know that I love a good cup of coffee, especially when it is a good blend. For me the perfect blend is one that is bold but not bitter, strong but still smooth. I love this psalm because it speaks of the perfection of God’s attributes that are manifest in the person of Jesus Christ. Every attribute of God working in perfect harmony with the others.
For example, in today’s psalm we see in Jesus the perfect harmony of God’s love and faithfulness. In 1 John 3:16 it says, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.” In Revelation 19:11 John describes a vision of Jesus at His Second Coming, “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True.”
In Jesus we also see a divine romance between righteousness and peace. 1 Corinthians 1:30 says, “You are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness.” Ephesians 2:16 tells us, “For He (Jesus) Himself is our peace.” This is a beautiful word picture of how when we receive Jesus’ righteousness by faith it gives us peace with God.
Everything about Jesus is perfect! Ask God to give you a greater ability to both see and appreciate Jesus today!
