Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. And he said:“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” – Job 1:20-21
No one in the Bible suffered more than Job. In one horrific day he lost all his wealth, three successful businesses, all his employees, and all ten of his children. Then He lost his health and was afflicted with painful boils from his head to his feet. To top it all off his wife and friends heaped on blame and discouragement.
Job’s response is incredible. On the worst day of his life Job worshiped. In the midst of his pain, Job praised. Job recognized that all of his earthly blessings were just temporary expressions of God’s everlasting love. Just because the temporary blessings were now gone didn’t mean that God loved him any less.
The same is true for us. Ephesians 1:3 encourages us to bless God our Father because He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. God’s love for us is so great that He has blessed us completely and eternally. When everything seems lost, we can worship God knowing that He still holds us in the power of His eternal love.
Take a minute today and think of 3 things that God has blessed you with that can never be taken away and then thank Him for those eternal blessings.
