Who Could Use a Little More Joy?

And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away.  – Nehemiah 12:43

The people of Jerusalem had a lot to be thankful for. The walls had been rebuilt, the city repopulated, and their spiritual life had been restored. But the joy that Nehemiah and the people were experiencing went far beyond gratitude. The Bible says that they were rejoicing “because God had given them great joy.” This wasn’t ordinary happiness, it was supernatural, God-given joy!

I don’t know about you, but I could use a little more of this kind of joy. The good news is that Jesus wants to fill us with His joy. He told His disciples, “When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!” – John 15:10-11

Jesus’ joy is more than just gratitude or happiness. It’s overflowing, supernatural, love-infused joy! And He said that all we had to do was to remain in His love by doing what His word says. You see, all of God’s commands are simply instructions for how to experience the fullness of His love… and being fully loved is ultimately what brings the greatest joy.

May you overflow with the joy that comes from knowing you are fully loved by Jesus today!
