A Forever King To Help Us Obey

2 Samuel 7:12 & 16 – I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom… Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’ ”

The example of David as the King who ruled over God’s people is one of the most important pictures of Jesus in the Old Testament. It’s so important that the New Testament refers to Jesus as the “Son of David” a total of 12 times. Both Matthew and Luke show that Jesus was a descendant of King David and Paul the Apostle makes the point that Jesus’ lineage from David is essential to the gospel itself (Romans 1:1-3).

David was unique as a king over Israel. Unlike all the other kings, some who had mixed motives at best and others who used their authority solely for their own selfish purposes, David was 100% committed to fulfilling God’s will. Jesus also was 100% committed to fulfilling His Father’s will. That’s why His Lordship over our lives is so important. God doesn’t want us to live in partial or temporary obedience. So He gives us a Forever King who will help us live in total and loving obedience to God.

How are you doing submitting to Jesus as your Forever King? Ask Him to help you live in loving obedience to the Father today!
