A Prophet On God’s Behalf

1 Samuel 12:23 – As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.

Most people don’t realize that the main role of the Prophet was one of intercession. First, he would intercede on God’s behalf with the people by sharing God’s word with them. Second, he would intercede on the people’s behalf with God by praying for them. This is exactly what we see Samuel doing. He shared God’s heart by teaching them the good and right way. He also never failed to pray for God to extend His grace and mercy to the people.

Samuel was a picture pointing us to Jesus as God’s ultimate spokesman. Hebrews 1:1-2 tells us, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,  but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.” Samuel also points us to Jesus as the One who always intercedes for us with God. Romans 8:34 tells us, “It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”

Jesus loves you, is praying for you and wants to speak to you today. Take a minute and sit quietly with Him and humbly say, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.”
