Let Jesus Lead You Into Victory

Joshua went up to Him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” “Neither,” He replied, “but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked Him, “What message does my Lord have for His servant?”  The Commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so. – Joshua 5:13-15

After the Israelites cross over the Jordan and are camped at Gilgal, Joshua gets a visit from the pre-incarnate Jesus Himself. We know that this is Jesus because He has a sword (the Word of God) and tells Joshua to take off his sandals for the ground he is standing on is holy just like Yahweh told Moses back in Exodus 3:5. The timing of Jesus’ visit is very significant. The Israelites were about to face their first battle in the promised land at Jericho. We are told that Jericho was a walled fortress – a stronghold. Instead of devising an elaborate strategy to slowly defeat this stronghold through a lengthy siege, God had the Israelites march around it for 7 days in faith and then He caused the stronghold to supernaturally collapse. Jesus’ visit to Joshua was a reminder to him and us that He is the one who gives us victory and pulls down the strongholds in our lives. “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” (2 Corinthians 10:4).

Are you facing a stronghold or an insurmountable problem in your life? Have your strategies and battle plans failed to bring you the victory you need? Spend this week marching around that in prayer and in faith look to Jesus to lead you into victory.
