Stop Wandering In Self-Effort

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide:  “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them” – Joshua 1:1

Joshua is a type of Jesus. In fact, Jesus is actually just the Greek version of the Hebrew name Joshua and the name Joshua literally means “God is Salvation.”  It’s interesting to note that the Israelites had wandered in the desert for 40 years following Moses. But it’s not until after the death of Moses (the law-giver) that God tells Joshua (God is Salvation) to lead the people across the Jordan. It was Joshua, not Moses that brought them into the promised land. He led them into victory over their enemies and he gave them their inheritance. In the same way, our best attempts to follow the law in our own effort can never bring us into the salvation that God promised. Only Jesus can save us and help us cross over into a new life. This is what Paul explained to the Romans, “The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son.” (Romans 8:3)

Are you struggling in self-effort or caught in legalism? Let the pressure to prove your own merit die and surrender your self-effort to Jesus today. Let Him lead you into the abundant life He promised.
