A Changed Heart

“The Lord your God will change your heart and the hearts of all your descendants, so that you will love him with all your heart and soul and so you may live!...  Then you will again obey the Lord and keep all His commands that I am giving you today.” – Deuteronomy 30:6 & 8

In the passage above, after Moses reiterated to the next generation all of God’s commands, he immediately told them that they wouldn’t be able to obey it on their own. He let them know that they had a heart problem and needed God to do surgery on their hearts. This was all pointing to what Jesus accomplished by dying on the cross and breaking the power of sin’s grip on our lives. He then sent His Spirit to dwell in us and to cry out with our spirit, “Abba, Father!” Love, not fear, becomes our greatest motivator. He also causes God’s Word to become  living and active in our hearts. We are now able to obey God’s commands, not by our might but by His Spirit.
