How to love God with all your heart!

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. – Deuteronomy 6:4-5

One day, a man asked Jesus what was the greatest command and Jesus responded by quoting the above verse from Deuteronomy. Since this is the most important command I want to take the next few days and reflect on the significance of what it means to love God like this.

So let’s start with the heart. Proverbs 4:23 tells us to “keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” This gives us some great insight into what it means to love God with all our heart. The heart is the source, the motivation, the driving force behind all that we do. All the issues of life flow from it. To love God with all our heart means that our love for Him is the source, the motivation and the driving force behind all that we do. Like Paul the Apostle said, it’s “the love of Christ compels us…” At the “heart” of a relationship with God is a love for Him that shapes and motivates every aspect of our lives.

If you were to take an honest look at your life, what would you say is the driving force that is motivating you to do what you do?
