Have you ever felt like your life was small, unimportant or insignificant? Have you ever fallen into the trap of comparing yourself with others who seem more successful, talented or influential? If so, I’ve got some great news for you.
Micah 5:2 says, "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel.” This prophecy foretells the birth of Jesus, the Savior of the world, in one of the most insignificant places—Bethlehem. It reveals a profound truth that God often chooses the least expected and the seemingly insignificant to accomplish His greatest purposes.
In fact, time and time again God chooses the weak to confound the strong, the foolish to shame the wise, and the least to become the greatest. Bethlehem was not famous or influential, yet it was the birthplace of Jesus, the Messiah.
When Jesus came into the world He didn’t do it with a lot of hype and fanfare. He didn’t try and get His message out through the rich, famous and influential. Instead, He came to the lowly town of Bethlehem and announced His arrival to a handful of poor shepherds.
Micah’s prophecy reveals an important lesson: our worth and significance are not determined by the wealth, influence or success that come into our lives, but by Jesus shining out of them.
When Jesus comes and dwells in our hearts, His love shines through our lives, transforming our insignificance into incredible significance. No life is insignificant when it is surrendered to Jesus. By allowing Jesus to shine through us, we become agents of change in our families, workplaces, communities, and the world.
Let’s embrace the truth that, with God, the least comes the greatest. Let’s let Jesus’ love shine out of our lives as we embrace true significance today!
